Special Olympics Rhode Island to hold second annual Truck Day

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Special Olympics Rhode Island are announcing “Truck Day,” which serves as the unofficial kickoff to the Summer Games.
Special Olympics Rhode Island’s trailer, which is filled with equipment and supplies, will depart from the Smithfield office for the University of Rhode Island on May 29.
Over 50 police cruisers from various state departments will escort the trailer on its trip to the campus.
The 2024 Summer Games are scheduled from May 31 to June 2 at URI, and will host over 1,000 athletes from Rhode Island.
The events of the games include bowling, powerlifting, swimming, soccer skills, Unified soccer, and track & field.
