Cumberland man indicted on murder charge after Pawtucket shooting

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — A man was indicted in connection with a shooting murder in Pawtucket.

Attorney General Peter Neronha reported Tuesday that 34-year-old Michael Fernandes of Cumberland was indicted Friday after the killing of 33-year-old Jocelyn Docouto of Central Falls.

Pawtucket police said the shooting took place January 19 around 8 p.m. on Central Avenue outside of the Docouto’s salon.

Docouto was pronounced dead on the scene, and Fernandes was taken into custody shortly after, according to authorities.

Fernandes was held without bail on January 22 after a judge entered a no-plea on his behalf.

Fernandes faces one count of murder and each of the following charges:

  • Discharging a firearm while in commission of a crime of violence resulting in death
  • Carrying a pistol without a license
  • Violation of a non-contact order
  • Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person
  • Possession of a large-capacity magazine
