RIDOT to implement lane split on Route 146 starting tonight

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation is reminding motorcyclists that starting tonight, they will be implementing a lane split on Route 146.
The lane split will be located on Route 146 North approaching the Sayles Hill road intersection, directly in North Smithfield.
According to RIDOT, motorists continuing north will use the left lane, traveling on recently completed section of the new flyover bridge, instead of stopping at the traffic signal.
Motorists wishing to make a turn at Sayles Hill Road intersection will need to use the right lane and the existing traffic lane, both lanes will be available for Route 106 North through-traffic.
RIDOT said drivers should not suddenly change lanes at the split.
