UPDATE: Body of missing man in Norton Reservoir recovered

NORTON, Mass. (WLNE) — The body of a missing man who jumped into the Norton Reservoir yesterday was located overnight.

Deputy Chief Todd Jackson indicated that the man was located around 11:08 p.m. by the Massachusetts Environmental Police using side-scan sonar equipment.

He was then recovered by the Massachusetts State Police Dive Team.

The male was identified, however his identity is not being released at this time pending notification of family.

Officials said crews responded at 7:30 p.m. last night after a report that a 40-year-old man dove off a motorboat into the water and did not resurface.

Two other men on the boat told police they attempted to throw the man a life preserver.

Officials believe the man jumped in about 11 yards offshore in about six feet of water.

Police said yesterday they would stay as late as possible Monday evening so they could locate the missing man.
