Nursing home workers to rally for better wages

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Nursing home workers and supporters will rally for better wages at the State House today.
The supporters are calling on Governor Dan McKee to end nursing home poverty wages and for a budget that works for all Rhode Islanders.
According to a recent release, Rhode Island nursing homes will receive nearly $80 million in Medicaid reimbursement rate increases.
In their release, Raise the Bar on Resident care said that despite language in the Nursing Home Staffing and Quality Care Act stipulating the 80 percent of any Medicaid increase should be directed toward workers, the majority of the funding has no such requirement, leaving nursing home workers in continued poverty and a system in crisis.
The rally will start at 4 p.m. today.
