59-year-old woman dies in West Greenwich fire
WEST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) — A 59-year-old woman died in a garage fire Monday after her husband attempted to reach her through the blaze.
The fire was reported at approximately 9 p.m. Monday at 18 Carr Pond Road when a resident of the home was woken by smoke.
He exited the home and called 911, and used a garden hose to reenter the home to find his wife, who had fallen asleep on the second floor of the home.
The fire and smoke made it impossible to reach the 59-year-old woman and she died in the fire.
Crews from all three West Greenwich fire departments, Lake Mishnock, Hiandloland, West Greenwich #1, Coventry and East Greenwich fire all responded to the fire.
