PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation will close the West River Street Bridge in Providence starting on June 28.

Prior to its full closure, RIDOT will temporarily close the bridge during evening and overnight hours, from Saturday to Thursday night.

According to RIDOT, hours of operation will be from 9 p.m. for approximately 10 days beginning on June 9.

RIDOT will replace the bridge during those four months as the West Street Bridge was built back in 1955, and is now structurally deficient.

The bridge carries over 8,000 vehicles per day and serves as an important connector road between Branch Avenue and Charles Street.
