Former correctional officer admits to smuggling drugs into Wyatt Center
CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WLNE) — A former correctional officer at the Wyatt Detention Facility in Central Falls admitted to smuggling drugs into the center.
The United States Attorney’s Office for Rhode Island announced Monday that 30-year-old Kaii Almeida-Falcones of Smithfield pled guilty to a charge of providing contraband to an inmate.
Officials said Almeida-Falcones admitted to smuggling approximately 200 Suboxone strips that were seized from a detainee’s cell on Feb. 15, 2021.
Court information showed that two inmates at the Wyatt Center communicated with a former detainee and another person to provide Suboxone strips to Almeida-Falcones, who then smuggled the drugs inside the facility.
Almeida-Falcones is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 12, 2024.
