Providence man sentenced for 2018 sexual assault at gunpoint
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence man has been sentenced to 25 years at the Adult Correctional Facilities (ACI) after being convicted of sexually assaulting a woman at gunpoint in 2018.
William Gilbert, 44, was found guilty of first-degree sexual assault on April 26, 2023.
Between August 1 and September 1, 2018, Gilbert was found to have taken the female victim to India Point Park to buy marijuana.
After leaving, Gilbert pulled over and parked the car and sexually assaulted the victim at gunpoint.
The victim told Gilbert’s then-roommate about the assault, which the roommate corroborated when questioned by police in March of 2020.
The Rhode Island State Police Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Gilbert on April 2, 2020.
“The defendant involved in this incident committed a horrific crime that has caused pain and suffering to the victim and her family, and I am grateful he has now been brought to justice,” said Providence Police Colonel Oscar L. Perez, Jr.
