Crews respond to fire at historic Sandwich inn Tuesday

SANDWICH, Mass. (WLNE) — The Sandwich Fire Department responded to reports of a building fire at the Daniel Webster Inn June 11 at 12:54 a.m.

The fire was spotted on a security camera by the front desk clerk who pulled the fire alarm box and called 911 according to the Sandwich Fire Department.

A fire was found spreading up the back of the building outside the kitchen area by arriving crews.

A second alarm was requested and additional units were brought in from Bourne, Joint Base, Plymouth, West Barnstable and Barnstable fire departments and the fire was extinguished.

All inn occupants were evacuated and accounted for, and one occupant was treated and transported to Cape Cod Hospital for smoke inhalation.

35 total firefighters were on the scene and the fire was knocked down at 1:25 a.m.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
