Brockton man pleads guilty for illegal possession of gun, ammo

BROCKTON, Mass. (WLNE) — The United States Attorney’s Office said a previously convicted Brockton man pled guilty to possession of a Glock handgun and 18 rounds of ammunition.

43-year-old Michael Whitfield was charged with  one count of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition.

The attorney’s office said that on March 6, 2023, police responded to a motor vehicle crash in which Whitfield was observed “in a vehicle with significant damage, its airbag deployed and a broken passenger door window.”

There was also the odor of alcohol coming from the car, an empty tequila bottle on the passenger seat floor, and a Glock 19X .9mm pistol loaded with 18 rounds on the driver’s side floorboard.

Whitfield is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to a felony conviction in 2006.
