PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — The Crush Cancer fundraising event at Smug Brewery’s goal was obvious from its name.

There were plenty of raffles, as well as a “pieing” contest that saw state Rep. David Morales participate.

Organizers said it was the third year of the event and each year has gotten bigger.

President of Crush Cancer Rhode Island Adam Palazio said his family has been “riddled” with cancer, which inspired him to start the organization.

“Thankfully in the last 20 years there’s been a lot of advances, but its something that effects everyone so its a cause we can all come together on,” he said.

The event raised $7,000 of its $10,000 dollar goal, with the proceeds to be donated to the Jimmy Fund.

Anyone interested in donating can do so here.
