New Bedford man arrested on drug trafficking charges

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A New Bedford man was arrested for allegedly trafficking fentanyl.
The New Bedford Police Department said 46-year-old Jose Santiago was taken into custody on June 10 for what officials say will be his second drug trafficking offense.
Authorities said Santiago’s arrest was a result of an investigation into a fentanyl distribution operation conducted out of a Reynolds Street residence.
Police said detectives located over 200 grams of fentanyl during a search of the residence, along with five grams of psychedelic mushrooms, digital scales, packaging materials, and over $200 of suspected drug money.
Santiago was taken into custody and charged with trafficking over 200 grams of fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute class A substance, among other charges.
Officials said Santiago has a previous conviction of trafficking in heroin and recently pleaded guilty to drug charges.
