Somerset child on bike dies after being hit by car

BRISTOL, R.I. (WLNE) – Rhode Island State Police are investigating a crash that has left one 6-year-old Somerset, MA child dead.

The accident occurred on Poppasquash Road at East Bay bike path just before 3:30 p.m. in Bristol on Tuesday.

The driver of the vehicle who hit the child was a 21-year-old female from Canton, Connecticut. 

She was traveling west on Poppasquash Road from Hope street in a 2007 Ford before then striking the victim.

After receiving several calls, Bristol rescue responded to the scene and transported the victim to Hasbro Children’s Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The Rhode Island State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit were on the scene following the incident as part of the investigation. 

Bristol Police Department and the Rhode Island State Police Reconstruction Unit are still investigating this incident.
