Coventry Police arrest suspect after officer struck by car

COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) –The Coventry Police Department said a suspect was arrested after a car that was fleeing a party struck an officer on June 18.

19-year-old Ryland Roy, of Thompson, Connecticut, was charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon.

The department said officers responded to the Coventry Bike Path in the area of Lewis Farm Road around 9 p.m. to break up a party.

A car then fled the scene, hitting an officer on the way, and headed in the direction of Connecticut.

Police said Roy was arrested as a Fugitive from Justice and is awaiting extradition to Rhode Island.
