Man drowns at pool of the Last Resort in Smithfield

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — A drowning occurred at the pool of the Last Resort venue in Smithfield Thursday.

The Smithfield Police Department said an unresponsive male was removed from the water and members of the Smithfield Fire Department attempted life-saving measures.

The victim was pronounced deceased. Their identity is not being released until next of kin are notified.

The pool will remain closed Friday in the wake of the drowning of a male, according to the venue.

The incident is still under investigation.
