Police identify victim in drowning at The Last Resort in Smithfield
SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — Police have released the identity of a man who drowned at a resort in Smithfield last week.
The Smithfield Police Department said Monday that 29-year-old Souleymane Diagne of Senegal drowned in a pool at The Last Resort on Farnum Pike on June 20.
Police said responding officers removed an unresponsive man from the water and members of the Smithfield Fire Department attempted life-saving measures.
Diagne was pronounced dead on-scene, according to authorities, who added that the death appears to be accidental.
Authorities said the State of Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Office was further investigating the case.
