Quiet weather returns after powerful winds pummel Providence and Bristol

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Northern parts of our area were smacked around by very gusty thunderstorms between 11pm and midnight last night.

Gusts between 75 and 90 mph where recorded on radar, leading to numerous trees down across Providence County and into Bristol MA as well.

Things have quieted down significantly but we are still expected to deal with plain rain showers until around 6 or 7am.

Clouds stick around through mid-morning but will give way to sunshine by midday. It will be warm, highs 80-85, but with humidity dropping steadily through the day.

Friday will be fantastic. Wall-to-wall sunshine and highs in the upper 70s with very comfy humidity levels. Saturday will feel similar, but with increasing clouds later in the day.

Showers and storms return Sunday – along with high humidity – as a cold front passes through. This will pave the way for a nice start to July.
