Storms bring heavy damage to northern Rhode Island and Mass.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Residents of Northern Rhode Island and Massachusetts saw severe storm damage overnight.

The storms brought winds between 70 and 80 miles an hour, with Lincoln seeing winds at 90 miles an hour.

Electrical workers were called in overnight to clear downed power lines in Smithfield, as well as trees in Cranston and Seekonk.

Cars were seen submerged under water on the Route 122 Bridge above Route 120 in Worcester.

Currently, there’s over 100 reported power outages in the state of Rhode Island with over 22,000 customers affected.

Officials are reminding residents to report power lines that are down, and to make sure you have a safety bag on hand in case your power is out.

A safety bag will include; non-perishable food, water, batteries, flashlights, and first aid equipment.
