WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Former Mayor of Woonsocket, Lisa Baldelli-Hunt, has confirmed that she will not throw her hat into the political ring anytime soon.

In a statement on Wednesday, Baldelli-Hunt wrote that as the deadline for candidacy in the state of R.I. was coming to a close, she was reminded of the firm commitment she made to herself regarding her health, as well as her family.

Last year, Baldelli-Hunt resigned during an investigation into the unauthorized purchase of land on Mendon Road, citing “health concerns” after she passed out at a press conference in April of 2023.

Baldelli-Hunt said she’s scheduled for a heart procedure this summer, which she hopes will have a successful outcome.

She thanked Woonsocket residents who were supportive after hearing that she might be coming back to politics.

“My greatest fulfillment as an elected official has always been utilizing my time, commitment, and relationships in making the lives of others better; I look forward to doing that in the future,” she said.

Baldelli-Hunt served as Mayor for 10 years, as she was first elected back in 2013.
