UPDATE: Police investigating Providence stabbing

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police are investigating a stabbing that occurred in front of a liquor store on Chalkstone Ave on Wednesday.

Police responded to the scene at 10:08 p.m. to find the victim lying in the roadway on Academy Avenue with stab wounds to his back and shoulder.

The victim was uncooperative according to police.

The victim’s friend stated they were in front of the Acme Liquors when a group of subjects approached them and said they wanted to fight the victim.

An altercation began and the other subjects chased the victim’s friend into the Walgreens and assaulted him.

He came back outside to find the victim bleeding on the ground.

The subjects, described as three black males, fled the area.

The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
