One hurt in early morning robbery in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A man is hospitalized this morning following a robbery on Friendship Street in Providence. 

According to officials, police were dispatched to Rhode Island Hospital where a man claimed that he was robbed.

According to officials, the robbery happened around 4:30 a.m., when a man was walking in the area of Friendship Street and five unknown male subjects approached him and told him to give them his belongings. 

Police said the victim was then struck in the face with an unknown object, and thrown to the ground. 

The men continuously kicked him, until the subjects ultimately fled the scene.

The victim stated that his black Nike shoes, $200, several credit cards, social security card, and driver’s license were stolen by the unknown subjects.

The victim also said he was unable unable to gather a description of the unknown subjects, and was unsure of exactly happened during the incident.

The victim suffered lacerations to the forehead and right cheek. 

The case is now being turned  over to the Detectives Bureau for further investigation.
