Opposing sides gather outside court as jury deadlocks in Karen Read Trial

DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — There is still no verdict in the Karen Read trial as jurors cannot agree whether or not she is guilty of killing her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, during a winter storm in 2022.

The jury first reported it was deadlocked Friday afternoon before being sent back to deliberate.

Read faces murder and manslaughter charges, while she argues she is the victim of a cover-up.

The case will now be pushed into July, as they have been sent home for the weekend.

Supporters of the defendant have been outside the courthouse with shirts, signs, and chants, hoping for a “not guilty” verdict.

“I don’t know how people can’t see the setup that this has all been, it’s been corrupt,” supporter Karen Dambrosio said. “It could happen to anybody, and it’s sad that this is what this has come to.”

The fourth day of deliberation also saw a group hoping for Read to be found guilty.

“We’re here today because we will not be intimidated, we will not be silenced,” Kate Peter said. “We stand in solidarity with the O’Keefe family, with the McCabe family, the Atwood family, and the Roberts family, who have all been victims of Karen Read.”
