Norfolk DA says Commonwealth intends to re-try Karen Read case
DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — The Norfolk County District Attorney announced Monday that the Commonwealth plans to re-try the case of Karen Read after a mistrial in her Boston police officer boyfriend’s death.
Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey said Judge Beverly Cannone set a status conference date of July 22 at 2 p.m. in the Norfolk Superior Court.
Read is accused of killing her boyfriend John O’Keefe by hitting him with her SUV and leaving him in a snowstorm outside of a Canton home in January 2022.
The defense said O’Keefe was killed inside the home of Brian Albert, a fellow officer, then dragged outside and left for dead.
The trial went through five days of deliberations before a mistrial was declared.
The case has garnered national attention with crowds gathering outside the courthouse to voice their opinions.
Morrissey thanked the O’Keefe family for “their commitment and dedication to this long process,” saying they “maintained sight of the true core of this case – to find justice for John O’Keefe.”
