Police identify driver, truck in deadly Smithfield hit-and-run

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — The Smithfield Police Department announced Tuesday that officials had identified a driver and truck involved in a fatal hit-and-run.

Police said 25-year-old Aliana Ciacciarelli was killed Monday night after she fell off her bike and was hit by a tractor-trailer on Pleasant View Avenue in Smithfield.

Officers found the woman lying in the road around 9:37 p.m.

Authorities said Tuesday morning they were looking for a light-colored day cab/tractor-trailer combination that was seen in the area at the time of the collision.

Police did not release any further details regarding the status of the driver or vehicle, adding that the incident is still under investigation.
