Triple E virus confirmed in Plymouth County

CARVER, Mass. (WLNE) — The Massachusetts Health Department is warning residents after finding a positive case of Triple E in a mosquito.

The collection was taken back on June 30 in Plymouth County.

State officials said although Triple E, or Eastern equine encephalitis virus, is rare in humans, it can be deadly.

Symptoms of Triple E include; fever, stiffness, and fatigue.

No human cases have been recorded since 2020.

Meanwhile, a positive case of West Nile Virus was confirmed in Quincy.

To avoid mosquito bites, experts recommend wearing long, loose, fitting clothes and using repellants with DEET.
