East Providence Police name two missing kayakers whose bodies were found in pond

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The East Providence Police Department released the names of two men whose bodies were found in Omega Pond on July 5.

The bodies of 52-year-old Joseph Fritz, of East Providence, and 37-year-old Gregory Boerman, of Allston, Mass., were found in the pond after the two were reported missing after going kayaking late in the night on July 4.

One body was located a short distance from the shoreline using a drone, while the second was a few hours later.

The department said the incident remains under investigation by the deaths do not appear suspicious.
