RIDOH releases advisories for two local bodies of water
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) put out advisories for two local bodies of water on Tuesday.
RIDOH released notices for Governor Notte Park in North Providence and Deep Spring Lake in Roger Williams Park in Providence.
The department said the closure of Governor Notte Park was due to high bacteria counts, reporting that the water quality will continue to be monitored through Labor Day.
Officials said people should avoid contact with the water in Deep Spring Lake due to water quality concerns due to the discovery of blue-green algae bloom in the lake, which can produce toxins that are harmful to humans and animals.
RIDOH reported that other bodies of water in Rhode Island could be affected, adding to be observant for bright green water coloration and floating algal mats on the surface of the water.
