Second Newport shooting suspect appears in court

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — A second individual allegedly involved in a shooting in Newport on July 5 appeared in court today. 

24-year-old Kenneth Jenkins was charged with possession of a firearm and possession of a large capacity firearm magazine.

Jenkins was also charged with concealing a felony, assault to commit specified felonies, conspiracy, and false information in securing a firearm.

24-year-old Johnny Escobar was also taken into custody Wednesday and was arraigned in connection with the same shooting.

The victim in the shooting is expected to survive.

Jenkins was given a total of $5,000 bail for the charges.
