RIDOH recommends closing swimming areas in South Kingstown due to bacteria, reopening lake

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Health said that it is recommending closing two bodies in water in South Kingstown to recreation while reopening another in North Providence.

RIDOH said they recommend closing the swimming area associated with Kingston’s Camp and Camp Hoffman on Larkin Pond due to high bacteria counts.

The department added that Governor Notte Park Beach can be reopened after bacteria levels returned to safe levels.

The department also recommended the public avoid Coomer Lake in Glocester due to blue-green algae.
