Aquidneck police departments arrest 3 on related gun charges
NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Newport Police Department said that it, alongside the Middletown and Portsmouth Police Departments, arrested three men on related firearms charges stemming from a shooting on July 5.
Marc Washington was charged fleeing a motor vehicle stop, possession of cocaine, conspiracy, compounding or concealing a felony, assault with intent to commit felonies, possession of a firearm by person prohibited, and license of permit required for carrying a pistol.
Washington was arrested on July 12 after fleeing from a traffic stop.
Two other men were previously arrested in relation to the shooting, which police said involved multiple people with guns.
24-year-old Johnny Escobar, of Middletown, was charged with possession of firearms by person prohibited, assault with intent to commit felonies, license or permit required for carrying a pistol, firing in a compact area, and disorderly conduct.
Kenneth Jenkins, Jr., of Middletown, was charged with compounding or concealing a felony, conspiracy, assault with intent to commit felonies, and providing false information when securing a firearm.
Escobar was arrested by police on July 8.
The victim of the shooting was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and police obtained a warrant for Escobar after investigating.
Jenkins was arrested on July 10 at a residence, and found a 9mm handgun during a search of said residence.
