Massachusetts confirms first case of measles since 2020

BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has confirmed that an adult resident of Worcester County who had recently traveled internationally was diagnosed with measles in July.

This is the first confirmed case of measles in a Massachusetts resident since early 2020.

As of July 11, a total of 167 measles cases have been reported in 24 jurisdictions across the United States in 2024, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The majority of these individuals were unvaccinated or had unknown vaccination status and among reported cases, 53 percent were hospitalized.
