Person dies after crash that shut down road in East Providence

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The East Providence Police Department said that a female died after a motor vehicle crash that closed down part of Veterans Memorial Highway Thursday.

The department said that the closure was between South Broadway and Lyon Avenue, and the crash involved a Highway Department vehicle.

The female driver of the vehicle was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries, and was pronounced dead.

Police said the female’s identity will not being released until notification of next of kin has been made.

The passenger of the vehicle was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
