PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Employees at the Omni Hotel who are members of UNITE HERE Local 26 announced they would be holding a strike vote on Aug. 7.

The announcement came during a rally outside the hotel attended by City Council President Rachel Miller and Reps. Seth Magaziner and Gabe Amo.

The union said the workers were “angered by bargaining sessions where hotel owners have proposed insufficient wage increases and inadequate job protections.”

“After months of negotiations, we’re still too far apart on the issues that matter to hotel workers and their families – like wages that actually cover the cost of living and workloads that are safe and sustainable,” President of UNITE HERE Local 26 Carlos Aramayo. “Today workers have shown that they are willing to do whatever it takes to win a fair contract.”

ABC 6 News has reached out to the management of the Omni Hotel and are waiting for a response.
