Pawtucket man sentenced in $158,000 credit card fraud case

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — An IT specialist who defrauded his former company out of more than $158,000 using a company credit card has been sentenced to federal prison, according to the office of United States Attorney Zachary A. Cunha.
Alfred Appiah, 35, of Pawtucket, was sentenced Tuesday to seven months in federal prison, to be followed by three months of home confinement and one year of federal supervised release.
Appiah was also ordered to pay restitution of $158,850.43 to his former employer.
Appiah pleaded guilty in February to three counts of wire fraud, admitting that he made more than 600 unauthorized purchases using a company credit card beginning in June of 2021.
This included personal expenses such as airline travel, clothing, grocery and liquor store purchases, live event tickets, child support payments and more.
