At least two displaced after fire in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — Several people were left without a home Tuesday after a fire in New Bedford.

New Bedford Fire Chief Scott Kruger said crews responded to a fire at 3:15 p.m. on Bates Street.

Kruger said when they arrived they found heavy fire coming from the second floor balcony.

The fire extended to the attic and firefighters had to cut holes in the roof for ventilation.

Kruger said that no one was injured, but at least two people have been displaced.

Two cats were rescued from the house.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but is believed to be accidental, according to Kruger.
