Providence IT specialist sentenced for defrauding wind/solar company

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) —  United States Attorney Zachary Cunha said an IT specialist who was employed by the Rhode Island office of an international wind and solar company was sentenced for defrauding the company out of more than $158,000.

35-year-old Alfred Appiah was charged with three counts of wire fraud.

Appiah admitted he made more than 600 unauthorized purchases using a company credit card to pay for personal expenses and services  over the course of six months starting in June 2021.

Cunha said that Appiah was sentenced to seven months of incarceration in federal prison followed three months of home confinement and one year of federal supervised release.

He was also ordered to pay restitution totaling $158,850.43 to his former employer.
