Brockton man convicted in connection with ‘wide-ranging’ cocaine conspiracy
BROCKTON, Mass. (WLNE) — The United States Attorney’s Office said that a Brockton man was convicted in connection with a cocaine trafficking conspiracy involving Puerto Rico, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.
40-year-old Robert Monteiro was found guilty of one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute cocaine.
Monteiro was involved in a trafficking scheme that involved transporting up to 20 kilograms of cocaine at a time from the Dominican Republic to Puerto Rico, and then to Massachusetts and Rhode Island via United States Mail.
Monteiro’s job was to collect packages and redistribe kilograms of cocaine that came in through the mail.
Sentencing for Monteiro is scheduled for Oct. 24.
He was originally indicted alongside 10 co-defendants.
