Local business owner shares footage from North Kingstown robbery spree

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — Yorktown Market was one of several businesses broken into in an overnight smash-and-grab spree in North Kingstown.

“They think they only hurt us for cash,” Syed Afzaal, owner of Yorktown Market, said. “[But they] damaged glass, all the doors were shattered, time wasted, [the] store stayed closed for the rest of the day. We lose business all day long.”

Afzaal said this is not the first time he has experienced something like this, getting robbed at gunpoint a few years back, and added there is always a better solution.

“Come and ask if you’re that desperate,” Afzaal said. “Sometimes it will save you jail time…outside you have chances, [but] in the prison you’re at the mercy of the people on the outside.”

The North Kingstown Police Department said one suspect has been taken into custody, noting that the case is still under investigation.
