Providence man receives double life sentence for 2022 murder

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence man received two consecutive life sentences in prison on Tuesday stemming from an April 2022 murder outside of a night club.

Robert Komhlan, 38, was found guilty April 5 of first-degree murder, discharging a firearm while in the commission of a crime of violence with death resulting, carrying a pistol without a license and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited based on a prior conviction for a crime of violence.

Komhlan shot and killed Angelo Gomez outside of Wonderland Gentleman’s Club in Providence on April 1, 2022.

Komhlan attended the club that evening, and surveillance footage shows him leaving the club and entering a dark SUV.

The SUV was then shown driving a block away before turning around and returning to the club.

At this point several of Komhlan’s friends approached Gomez, who began to retreat.

Komhlan then shot Gomez three times before fleeing in the SUV.

After the incident, Providence police identified Komhlan using the surveillance footage and attempted to locate him, finding that he had deactivated his cell phone and fled the jurisdiction.

Komhlan was located and arrested with the assistance of the United States Marshals in Atlanta, Georgia on June 17, 2022 and was extradited back to Rhode Island.
