Man charged in major Providence drug bust to be arraigned

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A man arrested on dozens of charges in a major drug bust in Providence will be arraigned today.

On July 25, the Providence County Grand Jury indicted 58-year-old Jose Parra Reyes with one count of possession of more than one kilogram of fentanyl, one count of possession of more than one kilogram of heroin, one count of possession of more than one kilogram of cocaine, four counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, one count of possession of a stolen firearm, four counts of possession of a firearm with intent to deliver controlled substances, four counts of possession of a firearm while previously convicted of a crime of violence, and five counts of possessing a prohibited large capacity feeding device.

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley told the media in a briefing back in January that 10 individuals who were distributing drugs were taken off the streets, as were 13 firearms, thousands of grams of narcotics.

Smiley said the arrests were possibly saving lives in the community.

In a home on Winthrop Avenue, police said they found more than $1 million, four guns, and 11 kilograms of narcotics, including fentanyl, cocaine and heroin.

Reyes was originally arraigned back in February.
