North Providence standoff suspect facing charges

NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A man who took part in ten-hour standoff with police Wednesday has been charged.

According to Police Chief Alfred Ruggiero, Peter Exarchos was charged with Disorderly Conduct and resisting arrest.

The North Providence Police Department arrived at a home on Charles Street around 4 p.m. on Wednesday for a wellness check, before finding a 60-year-old man with a gun refusing to come out of his home.

Police blocked off a portion of Miner Street nearby for most of the night, as they worked to get the suspect and his 92-year-old mother safely out of the home.

After ten hours, the man taken to Rhode Island Hospital for a mental health evaluation.

The suspect was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation to get whatever help he may need.

Ruggiero said they did not find a weapon in his home.
