Warwick hit-and-run suspect allegedly replaced fender after deadly crash

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — More disturbing details came to light after a man charged in connection to a deadly hit-and-run in Warwick appeared in court Friday.

Prosecutors said 24-year-old Dannys de Jesus Marcano hit two people on Quaker Lane on July 28, killing one and severely injuring the other.

The victims were on the side of the road after a separate that took place crash moments earlier.

Officials said 26-year-old Logan Barboza was helping 44-year-old Nicholas Cote after Barboza hit him with her car when Marcano allegedly drove through, hit both of them, and left the scene.

Prosecutors added that surveillance footage allegedly showed Marcano leaving a marijuana dispensary just before the incident and detectives found compelling evidence when inspecting his vehicle, including new damage to the headlight and an apparently replaced fender.

Police arrested Marcano at his home in North Kingstown on Aug. 1 and charged him with one count of duty to stop in accidents resulting in death and one count of duty to stop in accidents resulting in serious bodily injury.

His bail was set at $50,000.
