Tropical Storm Debby ruins vacation plans for locals and strands many
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Tropical storm Debby is roaring across Florida and travelers in Rhode Island are being impacted with setbacks at the airport.
“Hopefully we will get back today,” said Cindy Costa of Palm Coast, Florida.
That’s what you’ll hear at T.F. Green airport on Monday, as many travelers are stranded. A lot of them trying to get back to Florida as Debby is in full force.
Flight-Aware is showing 36 delays and 10 cancellations at T.F. Green at this time, most of which are to or from Florida. Updates on cancelations and delays can be found here.
More than 1500 flights had been canceled nationwide as of the late hours of Monday morning.
Many are scrambling to salvage vacation plans and some are even looking into new locations to escape to.
“We’ve been here for five hours…,” said Leah Simard of Warwick. “because we don’t want to just go home because we scheduled a flight and now it’s canceled… but we still want to go somewhere because our stuff is packed and everything.”
The misery is likely to continue as the storm makes its way into Georgia and South Carolina, where it is expected to dump potentially historic amounts of rainfall.
