Fairhaven man charged in connection with hit-and-run granted bail

FAIRHAVEN, Mass. (WLNE) — A 35-year-old man has been granted bail following charges in his connection to a fatal hit-and-run that happened over the weekend on Main Street.
The Bristol County District Attorney said that Ryan Almeida was charged with Leaving the Scene-Death Resulting and Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon-Substantial Injury.
He appeared in court on Tuesday, August 6.
Police responded to the area of Riverside Cemetery near the Route 195 overpass around 7 p.m. on Sunday.
The driver of a moped was seriously injured and transported to to St. Luke’s Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The victim was 29-year-old Alexis Alvarez.
Police said a preliminary investigation determined that the moped and truck were both traveling southbound at the time of the crash.
Almeida was granted $25,000 bail, with conditions that he must not drive and must surrender all firearms.
His next court date is September 24.
