Rhode Island celebrates Victory Day

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Pawtucket and North Kingstown will be holding celebrations in honor of Victory Day.
Rhode Island is the only state in the U.S. to still celebrate Victory Day, commemorating the conclusion of World War II, and remembering those who served.
In North Kingstown, members if the parade committee will be setting up American flags in Wickford Village to honor the holiday starting at 8 a.m.
They will also be placing the flags of the nation’s six armed forces at Veterans Memorial Park.
In Pawtucket, the Veterans Council and the city of Pawtucket will be hosting their annual Victory Day Ceremony.
Mayor Donald Grebien will be in attendance with the city’s council members and veterans council members.
The ceremony is set to start at 11 a.m. at the Pawtucket City Council chambers on Roosevelt Avenue.
In observance of Victory Day, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority will be operating on their holiday schedule.
The holiday schedule applies to all regular fixed-route buses and trolleys.
All RIPTA offices, except for the customer service kiosk at the Newport Transportation Center, will be closed today as well.
