Rabid bobcat attacks dog in Glocester

GLOCESTER, R.I. (WLNE) — The Glocester Police Department said a family dog was attacked by a rabid bobcat on Slavin Path Wednesday.
Police said the bobcat was captured and confirmed to have rabies.
The department said residents should take the following precautions, which include keeping pets on leashes near wooded areas, ensure pets are properly vaccinated for rabies, secure trashcans and don’t leave out food which can attract wildlife, and report any suspicious or aggressive wild animals to Glocester Animal Control at 401-568-3885 or the police at 401-568-2533.
Rabies is a deadly viral disease that affects the nervous system and prompt medical attention is crucial if bitten or scratched by a potentially rabid animal.
