RIDOT to repair bridges on I-95

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Major renovations to more than a dozen bridges across the Ocean State are set to kick off today, addressing bridges on I-95 between Providence and Warwick.

Governor Dan McKee and the Rhode Island Department of Transportation are set to gather in Cranston this morning to kick off the I-95 project, taking 15 bridges in poor condition off of the department backlog.

The bridges are located in Providence, Cranston, and Warwick.

As part of the nearly $780 million project, RIDOT officials say this project will fix three of the five most structurally deficient bridges in the state.

Rhode Island’s Congressional delegation has unlocked another $251,150,000 in federal funding for these bridges.

Of the 15, 11 of the structures will be replaced, with four being completely removed.

RIDOT will also work on resurfacing portions of I-95 and improve portions of the median barriers.

While the kick-off to the project is this morning at 10 a.m., the actual work is expected to continue into 2031.

RIDOT said more than 200,000 vehicles travel on this corridor every day.
