Police identify suspect in Coventry kidnapping, high speed chase

COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) — The Coventry Police Department has named the suspect in a kidnapping that occurred on Sunday morning.

Steven Henning, 53, has been charged with kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon in a dwelling, first degree robbery, assault on a person over 60-serious bodily injury and burglary and larceny of a motor vehicle.

After receiving a call from Smithfield police that a possible abduction occurred in Coventry, Coventry police responded to a residence and found that an 80-year-old female victim was taken from her  home and transported to Smithfield, where she was found.

Henning led police in a high speed chase and was apprehended by Providence police.

The victim was taken to a local hospital.

Henning will be arraigned in Coventry Kent County Courthouse Monday and faces additional charges in Burrillville and Smithfield.
