PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Place Mall celebrates its 25th birthday today.

Opened on August 20, 1999, the mall opened with Nordstrom’s 100th store.

Nordstrom did close back in 2019 when it was replaced by Boscov’s.

Stores like JCPenney and Gap have also left the mall since opening day.

The mall is home to Showcase Cinemas, Macy’s, and a new Level99 gaming playground.

The Providence Place Mall was also the most expensive development project in the history of Rhode Island.
